Her dad used to lose his head for gambling, remember the night he was almost dragging them all down? Now, look at him – hunched over those textbooks! He talks about studying for imperial exams like it's a whole new world. "I can't sell my baby girl!" he insists now, completely unlike himself.
And her mom? Used to be this timid soul, barely even lighting the stove sometimes because of how worried she was. Now she's practically running an empire from that kitchen! She sends people packing with that cleaver when they come calling for payment. "Get lost!" you can hear her yell.
